Dr. Evarist Nabaasa, has been appointed substantive Dean Faculty of Computing and Informatics at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). This was announced by the University’s academic registrar Martha Kyoshaba Twinamasiko in a notice dated May 11, 2021 seen by 5W News. Nabaasa, now a senior lecturer, scooped the position unopposed.
“In case there is only one nominee, s/he shall be declared the winner as long as s/he meets the criteria.in view with that provision (G.17), I declare Dr. Evarist Nabaasa as winner,” she announced.
Nabaasa holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Makerere University where he graduated in the year 2000. In late 2000, he started Lecturing in the Faculty of Computing and Informatics Sciences (FCIS) at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) as an Assistant Lecturer. In 2002 to 2003 he headed the department of computer Science at Mbarara University. He went on to win a Chinese scholarship and went to China for a Masters of Engineering in Computer Science from 2003 to 2006 where he graduated with MEng. Comp Science offered at Hunan University in Changsha City. At my masters he focused his research on Computer Networks particularly researching on Security of Base Stations in Wireless Sensor Networks. On his return to Uganda in late 2006, he continued as a lecturer in the Faculty of Computing and Informatics Sciences at Mbarara University to-date. In January 2015, he graduated with a PhD in Computer Science from Mbarara University of Science and Technology. During his PhD, he was mentored by revered Prof. Frits Vaandrager of Radboud University- Netherlands, Associate Prof. Idris Rai – of Makerere University, Dr. Tonny Bulega- of Makerere University and Dr. John Businge- of Mbarara University of Science and Technology. His research was about Algorithms for Scheduling and Optimization of Traffic Lights via Wireless Sensor Networks.
