KAMPALA- Rosebud Ltd, Uganda’s leading exporter of fresh and quality flowers, has been granted the freedom to trade anywhere in the world.
This comes after acquiring an International Certificate.
“We now have International certification which means Uganda now exports quality flowers to all major markets,” Rosebud Managing Director, Rajiv Ruparelia revealed Friday adding, “We have also attained fair trade standards which means we sell at good values which benefits the country and our workforce.”
Rosebud is a subsidiary of Ruparelia Group of Companies with businessman Sudhir Ruparelia as a wealthy brain behind it.
While donating beds and other household items to 10 villages neighboring Rosebud Farm at Namulanda on Friday, Rajiv said Rosebud plans to increase production to meet the growing demand of flowers across the world.
Currently, the company exports about 150 million roses annually.
Rajiv says trading across the world calls for expansion. The expansion, he says, will increase revenue (for the country) and employment.
“The market abroad is very big. Even if we increase the acreage of our farms we will not satisfy the entire market. This means we need to increase productivity using good farm practices that we have used for many years. If you work hard we shall all benefit as a family,” Rajiv told his workers.
He called for unity and hard work, emphasizing the need to amicably address any disagreements that may arise.
“We are a family and trust me your interest is our interest. We are all in this together to ensure your livelihoods are improved…That you can take your children to school and have a good life.
So, let’s work hard together to achieve it,” he said.
Over 2000 received mattresses and other household items from a company started in 2000 on 13 hectares, but now sits on over 60 hectares under greenhouses and employs over 1, 500.
