“This serves as summons for you to appear at Masaka Police Station on Monday 6th September 2021 at 1000 hours before D/SSP Moses Taremwa for a statement in respect to the said investigations,” reads part of the summons to Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West) and Mohammad Ssegirinya (Kawempe North).
The summons is part of the ongoing probe into the killings in Greater Masaka in which nearly 30 people have been killed in one month.
However, the lawmakers have been named directly in three cases.
The cases are: CRB 605/2021, 600/2021 and 619/2021.
Government insists that the attacks in Greater Masaka are political.
On Tuesday while addressing journalists at the Media Centre, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, said the killings were linked to politics.
“What seems to come out is that these people are being used by some politicians to create fear among the population,” Baryomunsi said Tuesday.
The minister told journalists that the motive of the said politicians was to paint a bad image of the government.
“They want to cause fear among the people so that the population can say that the NRM government has failed to protect them,” he added.
As such, government believes that the violent incidents are part of opposition’s Plan “B”
So far, 15 people have been arrested in connection to the murders, 10 of whom have been charged before court.
During interrogation, suspects: Kawalya Yazid, Sserwadda Mike, Muwonge Jude, Kibedi Yowana, Nakakawa Sylvia and Jjemba Francis confessed to the crimes and named some opposition politicians as their bank-rollers.
Commandonepost, an online publication, writes that the panga-wielding men pocketed Shs 100, 000 per head cut, ‘thanks’ to the funding/funders.
Against the above background, Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya have been summoned to record statements to help in the investigation.
