ENTEBBE: The long an acrimonious journey to name the next Managing Director of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is over.
The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen Edward Katumba Wamala appointed the acting UCAA MD Fred Bamwesigye Kanyangoga as the substantial Director General of the aviation body on September 28, 2021 and his work starts today, October 1, 2021.
A two-page appointment letter with lots of fringe benefits that come with the big office, and which MediaScape News has seen, confirms.
His appointment by Gen. Katumba is a 3-year contract and in in line with Part IV Section 14 (1) of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Act Cap 354.
Bamwesigye’s appointment, following a year of being in acting capacity, comes at a time when the body is dogged by a lot of controversies and the country’s only international airport in dire need an image clean-up and great expansion drive as a potential regional hub.
Some of the privileges awaiting him; flying business class while on official duty, 25% of consolidated salary per annum, allowances, transport, annual leave, Medicare, transport, service gratuity, local official travel, air tickets, twos security guards allowance, furniture allowance and Shs 30 million in salary per month.
Who is Bamwesigye?
Bamwesigye has served the authority in different capacities as Director Human Resource and Administration and as Deputy Director General before being appointed the acting Director General in June 2020.
He also sits on the board of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) as a member.
