Bwindi Community Hospital (BCH) is a private not for profit making organisation which started in 2003 mainly to improve the health of Batwa Pygmies.
In a move to improve the lives of people in Kanungu district, Eng. Sam Kajojo, the district Chairperson with his executive on October 9, 2021 paid a courtesy visit to the facility to appreciate the services and
possibilities of improvement.
Eng. Kajojo thanked the team of Bwindi Community Hospital headed by Dr. Birungi Mutahunga as the Executive Director and Rev. Akandinda Elizabeth Kamara, the hospital administrator for the better services and commitment.
Eng. Kajojo appreciated their team work that enabled Kanungu district to manage Covid-19 and ranked as the best in Covid-19 management despite being a border district.
Nyonzima Edson, the Hospital human resource officer extended his sincere appreciation to Kanungu district for the support towards paying some doctors and drugs. He, however, said challenges such as staff salaries, accommodation and an oxygen plant remain.
Murenzi Mereth, the head of Nursing and Midwifery services revealed that currently, Uganda Nursing School Bwindi is enrolling 412 students, founded Uganda College of Health Sciences, has a Sexual and reproductive Unit and offers services such as Surgery, Mental health, Diagnostics and many other chronic illness.
“In the last ten years from 2011 to 2021, we have won nine awards from different institutions and managed to acquire a Covid-19 testing machine,” Mureth said.
