The Ministry of Health has rolled out vaccination for children with underlying conditions and are between ages 12 and 18.
In a letter dated October 29, 2021, Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services guided all District Health Offices (DHOs) to vaccinate children with diabetes, mellitus type 1, sickle cell, cancers and asthma among other comorbidities.
The children will be vaccinated with Pfizer vaccine.
Dr. Mwebesa’s argument is that “the country has now secured enough vaccines” and as such, he also guided that all persons above 18 be vaccinated against the Covid-19.
On March 10, 2021, the ministry launched vaccination against Covid-19 for specific categories of people that included health workers, teachers, security forces and persons above 18 years of age with comorbidities.
In his communication, Dr. Mwebesa also ordered the DHOs to open up vaccination to all people above 18 years to receive Covid-19 vaccination, stop using consent forms for all people turning up for vaccination and continue giving vaccination cards and register persons in the registers after receiving the vaccination and share the information on a daily basis.
“The purpose of this communication therefore is to inform you to implement these guidelines to accelerate vaccination in the country,” writes Dr. Mwebesa.
