Dear brothers and sister in the Lord. Praise the Lord from whom all blessings flow.
The sad news of the death of Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah the Speaker of Parliament, a friend of many, has found me in Karamoja where I am on my Pastoral Visit.
We learnt of his sickness and we have been praying that God heals him. But again it is God who gives and it’s Him who takes away.
There are many questions that are being asked about why God has taken him away at this moment when we needed him most. It is only God who can answer that question.
I register my condolences to the government of Uganda, the Members of Parliament, the Judiciary and above all, the President of this country, not forgetting the family of Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah.
Oulanyah has been a member of our Church. He was very committed and generous.
Not long time ago, he brought 100M towards Church House debt clearance. He went ahead and mobilized members of Parliament to do the same and the responded positively.
We knew him as a man who wanted a fair and just society, a peace maker, a champion of dialogue and harmony.
We are comforted by our theme as Church of Uganda from Lamentations 3:21, that there is hope beyond affliction.
May the Lord comfort Uganda in this time of mourning a great hero and a friend of many.
His Grace Dr Stephen Samuel Kazimba
Archbishop of the Church of Uganda
