Rwanda government cabinet chaired by President Paul Kagame Friday approved the appointment Teta Rwigyema the daughter of the Late RPF founder and leader Gen Fred Rwigyema as the new Director of the Africa Union Unit at the Ministry of Foreign affairs.
Teta, who has been in charge of United Kingdom correspondences at the same ministry will be reporting and working under the Directorate General of Africa that is headed by Shakilla Umutoni Kazimbaya who served as Chargee d’Affaires at the High Commission of Rwanda in Ottawa, Canada for 7years.
Her appointment comes barely a year after her wedding which President Kagame attended and talked tough on the family’s close friendship with authorities in Uganda and asked them to make sure Teta’s brother Erica Gisa Junior returns home.
At the wedding held on 7th November 2020, Kagame accused the Ugandan authorities of spreading distorted information and insults about him and Rwigyema, and added that Ugandans had even extended that by sowing discord between his and Rwigyema’s family.
‘I was looking around and didn’t see Gisa’s son. He should be here,’ said Kagame.
‘I ask you Teta, Janet and your grandmother to deliver my message to him that the country which his father, myself and others fought for is his home. He shouldn’t be seeking asylum outside. It’s not right.” Kagame added.
“It’s not right that when Eric Gisa comes he runs to neighbors. I am saying this because those neighbors have involved themselves in our lives, our well being, our country, from way back until today. They don’t understand. I don’t want anyone giving a bad name to my family or Fred’s.” He said.
Ever since he left Rwanda, Erica Gisa has avoided coming to the country and prefers to stay in Uganda when he travels to the region from United States where he lives with some of his close relatives.
Uganda and Rwanda relations have improved tremendously with the commander of the land forces of Uganda, Let Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba shuttling between Kampala and Kigali twice.
On his birthday dinner at State House Entebbe April 24, Kagame attended and spoke so fondly of the relations between the two countries and particularly the general.
