MediaScape News: You have read these very serious allegations. What is going on at NWSC?
Apedel: We have noted with concern these allegations. They are malicious. There’s no crisis at NWSC.
MediaScape News: Then, why are you failing to balance the boat in your salary structure?
Apedel: NWSC has a clear salary structure, ranging from SC1-8. Staff are recruited and later on promoted to different scales, based on their performance level and experience.
MediaScape News: But the whistleblower says this is very unfair and that promotions are based on who knows who or who can sleep their way up.
Apedel: This is totally baseless. There is nothing like that at this corporation. We reward competence and exceptional performance.
MediaScape News: What about the allegations that some people who share same responsibilities are rewarded or salaried differently?
Apedel: It is not about having the same roles and responsibilities.
It is about how one performs their roles and responsibilities.
MediaScape News: What about new staff who we hear are promoted quickly and the old ones left to stagnate at their jobs?
Apedel: NWSC has also experienced some new staff that join the corporation and quickly feel a sense of entitlement to promotion, without due consideration of the effort inputs and performance results. This is where the crux of the matter is.
MediaScape News: What is your policy on promotions?
Apedel: Results. We don’t look at someone’s sense of entitlement as the measure for promotion. This is not acceptable, given that NWSC survival and sustainability depends on a strong results orientation.
MediaScape News: How do you determine your salary scales? Apedel: All salary scale adjustments are based on prior performance appraisals and exceptional performance.
