“Society is like a patient. In order to treat a patient, you must, first of all, carry out diagnosis of what could be the problem of that person. Once you have correctly diagnosed the patient, then you can make the prescription. If the diagnosis is wrong, the prescription cannot be right and if the prescription is not right the patient cannot be cured.
Similarly, society must be accurately diagnosed. The tools that help you to understand society, the ideas that help you to understand society correctly, are what constitute ideology. Having understood society well and its problems, you, then, make a prescription to treat the sickness. This is Strategy. Strategy is the plan to handle a problem: from A to Z, while tactics refer to handling portions of the problem: from A to B, etc. Therefore, ideology is a systematic way of understanding society issues; strategy is a holistic plan to solve a problem from A to Z, from beginning to end.” Yoweri K. Museveni, Chobe, 18th February 2019.
On 18th March 2022 at Muni University, Arua, 20th March 2022 at Gulu University and 22nd March 2022 at Lira University, we successfully launched the Mwangaza African Revolutionary Study Groups. It has been a most exhilarating experience, with very important lessons for us. The program is being coordinated by the Mwangaza African Revolutionary Study Groups Center – a very modest but extremely serious effort put together by Pan Africanist Patriots and Volunteers. Mwangaza is Kiswahili for “Brightness’, “Light”, etc.
Our MWANGAZA Team was summoned back to Kampala on 22nd March 2022 from Lira – to discharge other very urgent national duties. We shall resume the launch of MWANGAZA with meetings in Kigezi (centered around Kabale University), Ankole (centered around the Mbarara University of Science and Technology) and Rwenzori (centered around the Mountains of the Moon University -immediately after the closure of the period of national mourning for Compatriot the late Rt. Hon. Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah. May Almighty God Bless Compatriot Oulanyah In His Eternal Rest.
In the meantime, let us place on record our warm appreciation to the Resident City Commissioners of Arua, Gulu and Lira -respectively Ms. Akello Alice Opio, Mr. Dennis Odongpiny and Mr. Lawrence Egole – who received us, and accompanied us to the Universities. We were also very well received by the Vice Chancellors of the Universities, Academic and Non-Academic Staff, Student leaders, Community and Religious Leaders in and around the Universities and the Media. The 3-hour long meetings averaged attendance of 100 persons each. We are very happy there were no disruptions of the academic and other programs and activities of the Universities.
A number of questions came up during the highly interactive meetings, as for example: Why the Study Groups? What was new about MWANGAZA? How was MWANGAZA going to work?
Why the Study Groups? We were able to discuss with our audiences, President Yoweri K. Museveni’s consistent and correct identification of “Ideological Disorientation” as the first of the 10 Strategic Bottlenecks bedeviling Africa’s Development. “Ideological Disorientation” refers to, amongst other elements, the lack of clear ideological principles. MWANGAZA seeks to complement existing ideological work efforts aimed at dealing with the challenge of “Ideological Disorientation”.
What is new about the MWANGAZA effort? It is very simply a 12 Months’ Program of structured Ideological Studies – through Study Group work.
How shall it work? MWANGAZA provides an e-learning platform and space for Compatriots interested in Ideological Studies. MWANGAZA shall carry out Field Outreach Work (like the ongoing) – to compliment the e-learning platform. MWANGAZA shall avail online: Reference Literature; Audio Books; Audios; Videos; Etc. Compatriots with more private concerns, views or questions regarding MWANGAZA, shall email them to (mwangaza73@gmail.com).
The MWANGAZA online Program of Study shall be divided in 12 Thematic Areas: Fundamentals of Liberating Philosophy Fundamentals of Liberating Political Economy
Liberating Theory of State, Law and Revolution Mercantilism, “Free” Market Capitalism, Imperialism, Neo-Colonialism and Contemporary Globalization Contemporary National Question New/National Democratic Revolutions and the National Liberation Movement History of Colonial Intrusion in Uganda Post-Colonial Contentions and Contestations Rise of the NRM as a National Liberation Movement Organization Work in Mass Movements Pan Africanism and Regional Integration Emergent National Strategic Doctrine
In the meantime, in the ongoing Field Outreach Work, MWANGAZA is giving 5 printed Booklets from Mwangaza Study Material to each participant: Abridged Mwangaza Prospectus; On Ideology and Strategy – H.E. Yoweri K. Museveni, Chobe, 18th February 2019: On the Economy of Uganda – H.E. Yoweri K. Museveni, Igongo-Mbarara, 23rd December 2018: On Madiba and Insuring Afrika’s Strategic Future – H.E. Yoweri K. Museveni, Makerere, 31st August 2017:
Contemporary Pan Africanism: The Struggle Continues! Victory is Certain! (Mwangaza Working Paper, March 2022).
We are adding a 6th Booklet, “The Political Economy of Take-Off” (Mwangaza Working Paper, March 2022).
In summary, the Mission of MWANGAZA is to encourage and enable the growth and multiplication of African Revolutionary Study Groups – committed to the fundamental Unity and Socio-Economic Transformation of Uganda and Mother Africa.
MWANGAZA deliberately targets: Young People; Business People; Entrepreneurs; the Corporate Class; Media: Industrialists; the Intelligentsia; Public Servants; Political Leaders; Community Leaders; Etc. – of all Generations and all Political Persuasions.
Finally, we are grateful to His Excellency the President who has taught us very well all these years, and continues to teach us. He has also taken the trouble to read through our MWANGAZA documentation – and offered both Ideological and Organizational guidance. For example, he has advised us to concentrate on the message – and this is working very well. We do not give “transport refund” or meals – people come to the meetings for the sole reason that they want to!
Thank you very much, Mzee! The Struggle Continues!
